Sony’s PlayStation Network suffers hourslong outage, frustrating gamers

PlayStation Network Down for Hours – Thousands of Gamers Affected

LONDON (AP) — Sony’s PlayStation Network Down for Hours – Thousands of Gamers Affected went down for hours on Friday night, frustrating gamers around the world who complained they weren’t able to sign in to their accounts.

PlayStation Network said on its website that “some services are experiencing issues,” and that players “might have difficulty” logging in, creating accounts, launching games, or getting video content.

“We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” it said. Sony did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

Data from Downdetector, an outage tracker, showed that reports first spiked at about 6:30 p.m. EST on Friday night and continued throughout the following hours, with thousands of reports submitted after the problem first emerged.

PlayStation said in a post on X at 8:46 p.m. EST that it is “aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN,” but did not indicate a cause or provide an estimate of when servers would return.

PlayStation’s status updates webpage indicated that all servers—including PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and its gaming services—were down.

Frustrated gamers on social media platforms including Reddit and X reported ongoing issues, with some mentioning that the outage was particularly inconvenient due to a beta version of Monster Hunter Wild being available and Call of Duty Black Ops 6 offering a double XP weekend.

Some popular games impacted by the outage included Fortnite, Call of Duty, Roblox, and Marvel Rivals, with outage reports for all of these games spiking at the same time PlayStation’s servers appeared to go down.

The outage was resolved by Saturday Night, and the PlayStation Network website was updated with a message stating, “All services are up and running.”
